Mammoth naming contest!

Most of the postcards from the Idyllwild Navigation Contest appear to have arrived, so the time has come for the next contest!

Mammoth Lakes, CA will be my next resupply stop, and while I know the town has lakes nearby, I don’t recall seeing mammoths there.

Why is it called Mammoth? That’s where you come in! Give me your silly, creative ideas in the comments below. Was the first mayor a mammoth in the Pleistocene and was such an astounding skier, the town was named accordingly? Or maybe one of the lakes looks precisely like a mammoth if you tilt your head and wear those red-and-blue 3D glasses?

I have a new set of awesome postcards from Bishop, but they weigh so much, I want to send a few! I’ll pick some favorites when I get to Mammoth in about 5 days.

Bonus points if you make me laugh, and extra double bonus points if I haven’t heard from you before!

Happy mammothing!
